"Make sense, not cents"

lil bit of a play on words eh?

Craigslist is not ad free.

September 17th, 2007

I keep reading article's praising craigslist.org for being ad free... The entire site consists of ads. Paid ads and classified ads, but it's ad free? Right.

Here's a quote from a PC World article,

"Most importantly, it has almost singlehandedly demolished the offline classified advertising business."

o rly? so you agree their site is a shit load of ads then?

"His Web site has no ads, charges absurdly low fees to a small fraction of its visitors, has a ".org" domain, and employs 23 people."

My head hurts.

Over Optimization?

August 20th, 2007

I have this affiliate gig going and was making alright money, but I figured since some traffic didn't speak English I would translate and send them to the proper language. I had all of the site human translated into 5 languages. Really segmented it pretty good. And the revenue went down :( I think maybe when they could understand it they were more likely to click and fill in things in hopes of finding what they want in the end.

go figure.

Affiliate Marketing

August 11th, 2007

Recently affiliate marketing has started to make me a full time steady income. Here is what I realized:

$15 offers are super competitive. $1-$2 to get noticed.

To break even you need to convert 1 out of every 15 visits.

$0.40 offers are not competitive and overlooked. $0.05 bids can be quality scored down to $0.01.

To break even you need to convert 1 out of every 40.

Although you get paid more per commission with a high payout, you have to pay a lot more for that commission. The roi on these cheaper offers is a lot better.

MSN cuts off link: searches

April 7th, 2007

I was trying to research my backlinks via msn and kept getting a blank page, then I headed over to digital point and it turns out MSN has stopped allowing the search for the excessive amount of automated queries they receive. That's gonna hurt a lot of link pop tools, but there is hope. hotbot.com can still be used for this type of search.

Big Jumo

March 2nd, 2007

Big Jumbo is great so far, I just signed up so it's auto optimizing still, but these past few days it got it right and is still tweaking. I think the revenue will level off and stay consistent soon, but this is optimizing extremely well. Especially when the bulk of that traffic is adult and paid horribly before.

Additions at NameDrive

February 28th, 2007

I've been testing my domain names here there an everywhere. I have moved from sedo to goldkey to namedrive to parked to namedrive to parked to streamic to bigjumbo in that order. Right now I'm testing bigjumbo because skenzo apparently does well for adult traffic, but I don't meet the reqs.
Anyways, about these additions. Namedrive announced today a couple new services. The most interesting to me is Broker Select. I submitted my .us portfolio. Other additions include Building Blocks, NameDrive Corporate, and a blog.

Overture, revisited.

February 27th, 2007

I messed up. I misunderstood the thing about overture. The bid tool is gone, not the search tool. I think a lot of people made the same mistake because overture is fast as ever or it's just because tools that showed bids next to searches are down.

Talk About Timing

February 6th, 2007

A few football team names .info dropped. I caught colts.info. Low and behold they won it all. I did the only logical thing, EBAY it of course.
